You can't stop someone taking the data, but... ~Vijay Churesasonettu 14.Jan.04 04:14 AM a Web browser Notes Client All ReleasesAll Platforms
...you can minimize the impact of a data theft by only replicating as small a subset of the data as possible.
For example, only allow a salesperson to replicate customers in his/her sales zone, who have a 50% or higher buy chance, and have contacted the company within the last 180 days, and who are interested in the subset of products the salesperson may sell etc etc.
This will have two benefits:
1. The salesperson can only steal this limited subset of data.
2. It will be easier to identify who did the stealing, because few salespeople will have exactly this data available to them.
And the other thing is to do is to make everyone sign a confidentiality agreement, so you give the theif a good old fashioned lynching.
